CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DIASPORA

Have you considered moving to Africa? Here are Key Steps & Questions for You to Consider

  • Define your relocation purpose: Are you moving for business/investment, heritage, retirement, or family? The visa/residence route depends strongly on that.

  • Engage local immigration/legal counsel. Determine exactly which visa/residence route fits your case (investment vs work vs individual).

  • Prepare to demonstrate legitimate financial/investment criteria: For example the business/investor visas require company registration, business plan, bank statements, etc.

  • Visit Africa ahead as a scouting trip: Get a feel for housing, neighborhood, cost of living, schools (if relevant), and healthcare. Use expat networks to inform yourself.

  • Integrate the moving logistics side (shipping goods, settling in) and the legal/immigration side. Relocation companies help with logistics, but you’ll still need local legal/immigration compliance.

  • Understand long-term path: If you wish for citizenship or long-term residency, check what each country currently offers for non-citizens/investors.

  • Cultural & community integration: Even though you're relocating for business or heritage, consider how you will adapt locally (housing, social network, schools, community). You may be one of the few relocating to a particular country, so local culture/climate will matter.
